Ballet
City Ballet trains ballet dancers in the Cecchetti method, an internationally recognized method of classical ballet training. We offer a classical technique for all students through various structured exercises. Ballet classes are traditionally organized, including stretching, barrework, porte de bras, adagio, pirouettes, petite and grand allegro. Students are also offered the opportunity to choreograph short dances during various holiday classes. The techniques and skills begun in the fall are built on throughout the course of the year.

Jazz
All Jazz classes combine traditional jazz with the ever changing styles of today. Each fun and challenging class consists of a group of selected dancers who will have the ability to explore performance opportunities and enhance their jazz technique.
Modern
Students are introduced to basic contemporary techniques including contractions, opporitional energy and improvisation. Students will explore dynamics in time and space and build understanding of rhythm, gestures and shapes.

Tap
All tap classes focus on the development of a sharpened sense of rhythm, coordination, and clarity of sounds incorporating warm-up, rhythm sequences, across the floor, and combination.

Character
Character dance is based on traditional folk dances which have been stylized for the stage. The skills acquired in ballet complement the powerful effect of character dance. These ethnic dances are found in most 19th century ballets such as Sleeping Beauty and Swan
Lake. Examples of this form of dance include Czardas, Masurka, and Polonaise. Character Dance is an integral part of classical ballet training.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop is a relaxed, freestyle form of street dance that is set in a high-energy, fun, and fast paced environment. Dancers will incorporate their own personal rhythm with the latest dance moves.
